A Married Couple is Helped by Pregnancy Support Services

Many of the young women who we serve in our Pregnancy Support Services (PSS) Program are single and in their late teens or early twenties. However, married women sometimes have the need for support and assistance as well.

“Tiya” learned of PSS through a counselor at CareNet, a local crisis pregnancy center. She was early in her pregnancy with her third child and knew that she and her husband needed help to prepare for their new baby. Although Tiya was born and raised in the Chicago area, her husband had come to America for the first time after they were married overseas. Culturally, they had very different family and childhood experiences.

Through working with her PSS social worker, Tiya and her husband learned how to function more as a team in their parenting. After several months of PSS involvement, they made many positive changes and were very grateful for the support and education they had received. At closing, Tiya shared that her social worker had “been amazing, very respectful, very helpful and very supportive.” They specifically appreciated how she supported their marital relationship and strove to help them strengthen it as they worked to be better parents.

It gives us great joy to come alongside women and couples who are struggling. We greatly appreciate your investment in the work that we do to assist them in becoming nurturing parents, and in this case, a stronger family unit.
