ECFA Helps a Mother Recover
“Bobby” is a cute one-year old who is a very happy and delightful little guy. He has dark brown eyes, curly hair and a playful smile. Sadly, his mother had been a victim of physical and sexual abuse which resulted in her turning to a lifestyle involving alcohol, drugs and homelessness. “Sandy’s” situation became so difficult that Bobby needed to be placed temporarily in the home of his grandparents.
Sandy’s case was referred to ECFA’s Intact Family Services program earlier this year. Her caseworker, Lam, was able to engage with her and provide her with supportive services. Lam helped her find stable housing and assisted her in making better decisions. Sandy has a supportive counselor and is functioning well on medication to treat her mental health condition. She developed a healthy relationship with a young man, “Steven”, and they are now married. They completed parenting training together and are doing a good job in caring for Bobby.
Sandy has become interested in reading the Bible and the family has attended church together. Steven is employed as a full-time route driver and earns enough to provide for the family. Sandy has a sweet personality and loves caring for her son. She is thankful for the encouragement and support she has received from Lam and for getting a second chance to be a mom. It is evident that Bobby loves his parents and grandparents very much. He is on target developmentally and behaves just like other toddlers his age.
