Intact Family Services Helps a Family Become Stable

It seems as though today more young parents are struggling to provide healthy and stable home environments for their children. “Dave” and “Angela” have two little ones and a third baby on the way. Sadly, the family came to the attention of DCFS due to an incident of domestic violence in the home. Dave has a history of substance abuse and Angela deals with mental health problems.
The family was referred to ECFA for intact family services. Their caseworker, Lam, learned that Angela was initially planning to have an abortion. However, Lam was able to counsel her and Angela decided to carry the baby to term. The family is also benefitting from in-home counseling.
Dave is invested in the wellbeing of their children, “Jackson” and “Lindsay”. He has been testing negative for alcohol and drugs and has stable employment as a forklift operator. Jackson has had some anger outburst in school but is beginning in play therapy to learn how to better handle his emotions.
Lam says Lindsay is a happy little girl. She is social and very talkative. Fortunately, the children’s grandmother is able to assist with their care. The family has begun to attend a local church regularly, and Jackson and Lindsay enjoy participating in the children’s program.
Lam is optimistic about the direction the family has been taking recently. She is hopeful that Dave and Angela will continue to progress in becoming responsible and loving parents.
